Rajasthan Enfield Adventure from Day to Day

Delhi sights.jpg

Day 1 ° > Delhi

Arrival Day ° d

Get together at our hotel in Delhi. If it's your first time here, everything looks for sure overwhelming. But don't worry, your mind will adapt itself to the India mode quite fast! And also, if it's your first time here, it's not a bad idea at all to take an extra day for Delhi before or after our adventure! However, the welcome dinner is today at 7pm.

Day 2 ° Delhi - Vrindavan - Agra

232 km, 4h 40m ° b,d

In the morning we will take care of some paperwork for our “time machines,"  as we call Enfields. When the paperwork is done, we head south to the home of the magical Taj Mahal. On the way to Agra, we make a stop at another unique place in India, Vrindavan, which is the headquarters of the Hare Krishna movement, or Krishna believers. As you might know, in Hinduism there is not only one god. There are many and many more.

Day 3 ° Agra - Fatehpur Sikri - Bharatpur

70 km, 1h 18m ° b,d

After breakfast, we will visit the most famous sight in India, the Taj Mahal, the monument of love. When we are done, we continue to another monumental place, Fatehpur Sikri, which was the capital of the Mughal Empire and is also a Unesco World Heritage Site. What used to be the old administration center of the Mughal’s era and what Fatehpur Sikri is today are as different from each other as Lagos and Las Vegas. But yes, you can still smell the powerfulness of history. Later in the afternoon we will drive to the small and sympathetic Bharatpur, where we stay tonight.

Day 4 ° Bharatpur - Jaipur

185 km, 3h 22m ° b,d

The bird park, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, which is in Bharatpur, is also one of Unesco’s World Heritage sights. In the crack of dawn, we will get rid of the remnants of sleep from our eyes (optionally), and go to the Bird Sanctuary. There have been about 400 bird species seen at the park, and it is not uncommon to spot 50-100 species in one morning. After our early nature tour, we have breakfast, and then we head to the 4000-year old pink city, Jaipur.

Elephant ride to Amber fort.jpg

Day 5 ° Jaipur - Pushkar

169 km, 4h 11m ° b,d

Morning in Jaipur. Our program consists of Temple of the Winds and Amber Fort. We will take rickshaws to the Temple and to the Amber Fort. Up to Amber Fort we ride on elephants. Around noon, we start to ride towards Pushkar, which is also one of the country’s sacred cities. After settling, we head to Pushkar’s holiest of all: the sacred lake of holy water, in which pilgrims take their baths. Nothing will stop you from taking a holy bath in it as well. For most of us, however, just following these rituals each evening will be fascinating enough. It seems like the information society doesn’t exist here.

Day 6 ° Pushkar - Udaipur

317 km, 5h 16m ° b,d

Today we drive to the glamorous Udaipur across peaceful countryside and many small towns which are not famous tourist destinations.  Udaipur has several palaces. The most glamorous one in the town is perhaps the Palace Hotel, which is familiar also from many movies, also from James Bond's Octopussy. However, this hotel’s rates are a little bit outside of our budget. Two nights here would be half of this tours price! :]

Day 7 ° Udaipur

0km

Day off. You can experience Udaipur however you want. If you feel like driving, the mountain region of Rajasthan is around with its many fun roads. If you feel like gaining cultural experiences, there is for example the Udaipur tourist office’s 5-hour city tour, during which you will see all the main attractions.

Day 8 ° Udaipur - Jodhpur

243 km, 5h 24m ° b,d

Today we have a beautiful driving day. On the way we have the Statue of Belief. It's a kind of amusement park with a 112-meter high Shiva in the middle. Shiva is one of the three main gods in India. The two others are Brahma and Vishnu. The Statue of Belief is in Nathdwara. From there, we continue to Jodhpur, which also comes with a huge history.

Jodhpur maharaja fort.jpg

Day 9 ° Jodhpur - Bikaner

259 km, 4h 54m ° b,d

In the morning, we will head to the fort of Maharajas, Mehrangarh, which dominates the landscape of Jodhpur. From Mehrangarh, we drive to Bikaner. Before Bikaner, we hit the breaks of our time machines at Deshnok, and there we visit one of the most unusual temples in India, Karni Mata. Karni Mata is not for the weak hearted: here they worship holy rats, and not just rat statues but real ones! Pilgrims come here to feed sugar balls to the sacred rats.

Day 10 ° Bikaner - Jhunjhunu

220 km ° 4h 39m

Time to turn in the direction back to Delhi. On our second last driving day, our destination is Jhunjhunu. And as you can guess, there is no lack of history in Jhunjhunu either. Maybe the most impressive sight is Shree Rani Satiji Temple. Jhunjhunu is also the home of Khetri Mahal, which is also known as the Wind Palace.

Road trip India.jpg

Day 11 ° Jhunjhuju - Delhi

232 km, 4h 35m ° b,d

Our last adventure day. We drive back to Delhi. And nevertheless, no matter which road we choose, there will be some others on the road also. But today is Sunday, so the traffic might be a bit lighter!? However, it's time to say farewell to our Enfield motorcycles in the afternoon, and we will have forever in our minds the 2000 unique kilometers we have done in the last 11 days. In the evening, it's time for the closing dinner!
